To tell you a little bit about myself... I was raised with two very different cultures with a British Dad and a Filipino Mum. I was born and spent my childhood in Hong Kong. My teenage years were in India, Istanbul and Oxford and as a young adult in London and now Los Angeles. I've always had a foot in two different worlds. In India, my view from my bedroom was a slum. I spent my summers in the Philippines playing with street children in my Mum's hometown who are my childhood best friends. My mum constantly reminded my brother and I how fortunate we were to have choices, to not have been born into poverty. I discovered how one person could have an impact when I volunteered for Invisible Children in High School and Gawad Kalinga in University.
but home is where the heart is,
and that's in the philippines
That's why I love seeing any representation of the Philippines and sharing that with other Filipinos and non-Filipinos means so much to me. Working with Gawad Kalinga for 3 years, a Philippine-based poverty alleviation foundation made me part of a nation-building movement and I knew this was a life-long advocacy. So, I started KAYA lip balm and with every purchase a meal is provided through GK's feeding programme, Kusina ng Kalinga, that gives meals to children in public schools, in the streets and conflict areas.
